Dinefwr Castle
The remains of a 13th century castle.
The first structure on the site was built by Rhodri the Great of Deheubarth, but the present 13 century
structure was more at the times of Llewelyn the Great of Gwynedd.
The castle was captured in 1277 by King Edward 1, and in 1403 was attacked by the forces of Owain Glyn Dwr, but survived the attack.
In 1483 Henry v11 gifted Dinefwr to Sir Rhys ap Thomas, one of his generals, who carried out extensive modifications, and buit the
Manor house which stands on the grounds today.
Access to the both Castle and Manor house is available.
There is a charge for entry.
The site is now owned by National Trust.
